I am proud to say that I am now the happy owner of a VW bug. This is a car that I have wanted to have for a long time, and I could not be happier when I’m in it.
I really mean that. It’s like a happy meal on wheels, without all the nasty coloring and grease and cheap little toys that– well, ok. It’s nothing like that.
But I can’t help but be happy when I’m in it.
We took a little drive late this afternoon on some of the back roads in northern Baltimore County, doing our best to avoid the hectic after-work traffic (those drivers all look so snarly that time of day). When we finally distanced ourselves from the long lines and red lights, we spent the next 30 minutes hugging the road, happy little VWs, snug in a bug.
For the ride, I plugged in my iPod and turned to a very, very current playlist of poppy, happy songs that we all love. I couldn’t imagine listening to anything but happy music in my beetle. In fact, I selected the Closing of Winterland Dead show to take me off the parking lot of the dealer on my inaugural drive. Nothing like hearing Dan Akroyd count down the arrival of the new year with Jerry, Bob, and the others playing those ever-familiar opening chords to Sugar Mags.
Yeah…Everything about this car puts me in a great mood.
And the best moment today? The absolute best moment? I was stopped at a busy intersection by Towson Town Center, and when I looked in my rearview mirror, I saw a girl teasingly punch her boyfriend in the arm.
I laughed so hard at actually seeing somebody play Punch Buggy because of my little black bug. (For the complete punch buggy rules, check them here.)
So, if you need me any time soon, you know where I’ll be, smiling and singin’ along to some happy tune that makes every little thing allllllllright. Peace and Love all! 🙂 ❤
